Powerfields Students Beat Plastic Pollution with Creativity

Powerfields Schools champions plastic recycling.

In an era where environmental sustainability has become a global priority, Powerfields Schools is proudly taking the lead in championing environmental consciousness among young learners. This year, to commemorate World Environment Day with the global theme “Beat Plastic Pollution,” Powerfields Schools, in collaboration with Sahara Group and Egbin Power Plc, hosted a Creative Challenge that showcased just how impactful student-led sustainability efforts can be.

The Creative Challenge served as a flagship event during our Sustainability Week, students showcased brilliant creations including a rechargeable fan made from recycled plastic, wearable art pieces like a flower vest, colorful confetti, and many more upcycled items that reimagined the possibilities of plastic waste. These young creators reminded us that with education, imagination, and purpose, waste can become wonder. In a world grappling with climate change and environmental degradation, fostering eco-consciousness in children is not just commendable, it is essential and Powerfields Schools understands the importance of preparing our learners to be global citizens.

Our participation in the Beat Plastic Pollution campaign is more than an event; it is a call to action. Nigeria, like many countries, continues to battle rising levels of plastic waste and pollution. At Powerfields, we are empowering the next generation with the knowledge and skills to be part of the solution. Whether it’s through our AI labs, sustainability-focused school projects, or events like this, we are dedicated to providing a world-class education that equips our learners to think globally and act locally.

The event was powered in partnership with Sahara Group and Egbin Power Plc, both of whom share our values around innovation and community responsibility. Their involvement made this initiative even more impactful. Special thanks go to the CEO of Egbin Power Plc and the Director of Governance and Sustainability for personally engaging with our students and encouraging their innovation during the event, their presence reinforced an important message to our learners: that their ideas and actions, no matter how small, have the power to effect real change.

Powerfields continues to nurture confident, curious, and compassionate learners who are ready to lead. By integrating sustainability into our core programs, we are ensuring our students leave Powerfields not only with excellent academic results but with a global mindset and a sense of purpose.
