This unique visit was part of our ongoing Career Week activities and served as a golden opportunity for our senior students to gain firsthand insight into the intricate workings of Nigeria’s power sector. One of the highlights of the visit was the interactive session with professionals from Ikeja Electric. Students had the chance to ask questions, gain insight into possible career paths, and understand the real-life applications of the subjects they study in school.
Hosted at Ikeja Electric’s headquarters, our students made up of Year 10 and 11 students was warmly welcomed by the company’s Corporate Communication and Technical Teams. The session kicked off with a tour of the facility and was followed by a powerful knowledge-sharing session where students learned how electricity gets from generation plants to homes, schools, and industries.
Discussions ranged from:
- How the National Grid and Transmission Company connect with distribution networks.
- The importance of smart meters, customer service, and energy conservation.
- The role of IT, data analytics, and sustainability in the energy sector.
For many students, it was a first-time experience seeing how electricity flows through distribution channels, the safety protocols involved, and how various departments from HR to technical operations contribute to the smooth delivery of power.
